HolaOS

by holaboss-ai · holaboss-ai/holaOS

An open-source 'agent computer' — gives Claude a desktop-like surface for browsing, file ops, and app automation via MCP.

HolaOS is a runtime that provides a virtual environment for agents: filesystem, browser, app shims. Claude calls it via MCP and gets a sandbox where it can complete real digital chores. Useful when single MCP tools aren't enough.

    "holaos-mcp": {
      "command": "npx",

        "-y",
        "holaos",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config. Restart after saving.

        "holaos",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Cursor uses the same mcpServers schema as Claude Desktop. Project config wins over global.

        "-y",
        "holaos",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Click the MCP Servers icon in the Cline sidebar, then "Edit Configuration".

~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

        "-y",
        "holaos",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Same shape as Claude Desktop. Restart Windsurf to pick up changes.

~/.continue/config.json

        "holaos",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  ]
}

Continue uses an array of server objects rather than a map.

~/.config/zed/settings.json

  "context_servers": {

      "command": {
        "path": "npx",

          "holaos",
          "mcp"
        ]
      }
    }
  }
}

Add to context_servers. Zed hot-reloads on save.

claude mcp add holaos-mcp -- npx -y holaos mcp

One-liner. Verify with claude mcp list. Remove with claude mcp remove.

Use Cases

Real-world ways to use HolaOS

Give Claude a sandbox desktop for multi-step chores

👤 Developers ⏱ ~15 min intermediate

When to use: Tasks like 'gather data from 5 sites, drop into a spreadsheet, draft an email' that span apps.

Flow
  1. Boot
    Start holaos; Claude sees the desktop tools.✓ Copied
    → Surface up
  2. Task
    Ask Claude to complete the chore using the sandbox.✓ Copied
    → Steps logged
  3. Review
    Replay the session before trusting outputs.✓ Copied
    → Audit done

Outcome: Cross-app chore done in an auditable sandbox.

Cost & Limits

What this costs to run

Tip
Cap session length — long agent runs explode in tokens

Security

Permissions, secrets, blast radius

Minimum scopes: vm-control
Credential storage: Session artifacts on disk
Data egress: Whatever the agent reaches
Never grant: Expose the sandbox to a real user account without isolation

Troubleshooting

Common errors and fixes

Session goes stale

Restart the holaos runtime; sessions are not crash-safe yet
